Supreme Court Q&A – Chris Taylor
Scroll down for the questions, and we will post Judge Taylor’s answers if they are submitted.
Click for the video interview with Maria Lazar with an introduction and close by Daniel Degner, President of Wisconsin Family Council, before and after the interview conducted by Wisconsin Faith and Freedom Pastor Paul J. Hoover of Souls Harbor Baptist Church. We provided this link for answers to similar questions by the other candidate, Chris Taylor.
Vote April 7.
Pastor Hoover offered to interview both candidates for the Supreme Court, Maria Lazar and Chris Taylor, about how faith impacts those who serve in public life.
Many have asked whether WIFFC would be distributing hundreds of thousands of candidate comparisons as we did in the last presidential and Supreme Court races. That effort is not funded for this election, and judicial comparisons are more difficult since candidates cannot comment in the same level of detail as candidates for other offices. Instead, we offered to ask the same basic set of questions of each candidate.
Like other 501(c)(3) voter education organizations, the Wisconsin Faith and Freedom Coalition offers candidates the same opportunity to answer similar questions and distribute answers and research and provide footnotes to fill in extra information.
We do believe the practice of asking for information from both candidates is most helpful to voters. One of the most sought after pro-life speakers for years was Ruth V.K. Pakaluk (March 19, 1957 – September 23, 1998), who now has a case being built for sainthood. When she was asked by a group to speak she would respond that it seemed like a great chance to speak, but then would shock the organizer by asking “who the pro-choice speaker” would be at the same event. When the organizer was shocked by the question, she would advise the organizer that they could have a couple of dozen come to see her give a pro-life speech or have a couple of hundred come to hear a debate. She was president of Massachusetts Citizens for Life before cancer struck her at a young age.
In many cases liberal candidates answer liberal non-profits and conservative candidates answer candidates. However there have been notable exceptions. For example, a mentor of mine Morton Blackwell founded the grandfather of all grassroots conservative non-profits, the Leadership Institute, and while they have trained thousands of conservatives who have worked on every Presidential effort since Ronald Reagan there was one exception. In 1992 the re-election campaign of George H.W. Bush chose NOT to have their grassroots team send anyone through the LI school and to their surprise Bill Clinton’s campaign DID send grassroots organizers through the school – as a 501(c)(3) LI trained those workers.
The fact that it was Bill Clinton who decided his teams should participate in something being organized by “the other side” reminds me of the old adage that if you wanted to find Bill Clinton in a room of 500 people you just needed to find the person he hated the most and he would be there talking to them – but more importantly it makes the point that as a 501(c)(3) if one or both sides answer we provide answers to voters and encourage them to take that info and vote April 7, we will make their answers available.
To date, Chris Taylor has not accepted the invitation for an interview, so today we also gave the option to post her answers here if we receive a response. Her campaign did reply earlier this year, thanking us for the invitation to our first annual Salt and Light event, but noting they had a scheduling conflict.
If Chris Taylor is able to answer the following questions before the April 7 election, we will insert her questions here.
